Slovak eID Card with a Chip: Essential Information

Brief history of Slovak ID Cards

After the establishment of the independent Slovak Republic in 1993, paper ID cards were used, which were replaced by plastic cards in 2008. A significant milestone was 2013, when the issuance of ID cards with electronic chip (eID) began. These ID cards enabled citizens to access government electronic services. The latest generation of biometric ID cards, introduced in 2022, represents another step in improving the security and functionality of these documents.
